Almost every fraternal Member will espouse Academic excellence as not only a benefit, but a feature, of Greek Letter Organizations. It's important for leaders to remember that Academic excellence does not magically happen because someone joins a sorority or fraternity; we must prioritize academics and put our values into action in order to effectively support our Members academically.

There are many ways we prioritize academics within our chapters, from when we schedule social events to how many mandatory events per week we require of our Members. But just as important is keeping academics as a cornerstone within our chapters.

  • Knowing when Members have class to easily excuse them from conflicting events
  • Creating an easy way for Members to collaborate with others in their same classes/program
  • Highlighting Members when they achieve academic success

One way to stay motivated is to encourage Members to set up structured study sessions using the "Who's in my class Feature" in MCR. These study sessions can be done virtually, at the library, in your chapter facility, or via professor or TA office hours.

  • To find other Members in your same classes:

    • Log in to MyChapterRoom from a computer and go to the “Connect” section

    • Click on “Who’s in my class?”

    • Clicking on the class name will display a list with all Members in the same class and you can see who each Member has for a professor

    • You can create a closed group and add these Members to the group to make it easy to communicate with the group through MCR Mail and The Buzz

Don’t forget that this is also a way to promote your organization to others in your classes! Invite other friends to join you for your review sessions as a way to share with them how your organization continues to spend time together and promote academic excellence!
